The thirteenth edition of POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair runs from 10 to 13 September 2026. It takes place in Hangars 5 and 6 of the former Tempelhof Airport in Berlin. The fair brings together 96 international galleries from 20 countries. This year’s special focus falls on galleries from Türkiye.
Last year’s edition drew more than 30,000 visitors. POSITIONS has been the only official art fair of Berlin Art Week since 2014. That makes it a key fixture on the German art scene as the autumn season begins.
The hangars as backdrop
Hangars 5 and 6 have sixteen-metre ceilings and plenty of natural light. Combined with the backdrop of the former airport grounds, they create a unique atmosphere across more than 10,000 square metres. This vast space also allows for a rich supporting programme, including special exhibitions, awards and talks.
FASHION POSITIONS: fashion as art
FASHION POSITIONS takes place in the very same hangars, on the very same days. This is the eighth edition of the section, and this year it presents 22 independent fashion labels. Rather than a classic runway or ordinary commercial product, FASHION POSITIONS treats clothing as its own artistic discipline. The collections appear here as spatial installations, tactile objects and conceptual statements.
Designer Mira von der Osten and fair director Kristian Jarmuschek initiated the section. Right next to the exhibition space sits the FASHION POSITIONS SHOP, where visitors can buy selected pieces directly. This gives independent designers direct financial support. The Berlin Senate Department for Economic Affairs, Energy and Public Enterprises funds the project.
DESIGN POSITIONS: new for 2026
This edition also brings a brand-new section dedicated to design. DESIGN POSITIONS presents eleven Berlin product designers. Julian Daynov curates it. It marks the fair’s first step toward a dedicated section for contemporary design. The presentation focuses on the intersection of design, art and applied craft, with an emphasis on the play between form, material and function.
Supporting programme
Academy POSITIONS forms part of the fair too, a section dedicated to young artistic positions from graduates and students at German art academies. The Daisies format opens up young art to a wider public and, in turn, brings galleries of different generations into dialogue with each other. The programme also includes talks, such as “The Impossible Figure,” a conversation with artist Fatima Njoya on myth, form and bodily resistance.
Awards
POSITIONS presents several awards that help young artists and galleries gain international recognition. These include the Zilkens Best Booth Award, the Berlin Hyp Award and the HEUSSEN Perspectives Award.
